Workshop 2004: Large-scale turbulence in the atmosphere and ocean

Sixth Annual Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science Winter Workshop
December 3-4, 2004

The upcoming CAOS workshop will take place on Friday and Saturday, December 3 and 4, 2004, and will consist of about six 50-minute invited lectures each day, as well as time for informal discussions. The topic for this year's workshop is large-scale (meso-scale to planetary scale) turbulence in the atmosphere and ocean. A current list of participants follows:

  • Pavel Berloff (WHOI)
  • Shiyi Chen (John Hopkins)
  • Raffaele Ferrari (MIT)
  • Issac Held (GFDL-Princeton)
  • Andrew Majda (CAOS-Courant)
  • Rick Salmon (Scripps)
  • Tapio Schneider (Cal Tech)
  • Leslie Smith (U. Wisconsin, Madison)
  • Shafer Smith (CAOS-Courant)
  • Esteban Tabak (CAOS-Courant)
  • Jeff Weiss (U. Colorado, Boulder)

The Workshop is open to all interested parties, but because space is limited, registration is required. To register, simply send an email to the workshop organizer, Michelle Cordero, stating your name, institution, and which days you plan to attend. Formal admission will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so please register early if you plan to attend. Some space will be held aside for Courant attendees.

The workshop will take place in room 102 on the first floor of the Courant Institute at Warren Weaver Hall, New York University, 251 Mercer Street, NY, NY 10012. More location information, directions, and information for visitors (such as a list of hotels), can be found at the "Contact Us" link above.

The Workshop is sponsored jointly by the Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science and the Morse Chair of Arts and Sciences at New York University (Andrew Majda).
