Atmosphere Ocean Science Colloquium
Atmospheric Constraints on Ocean Physics and Biogeochemistry
Speaker: Laure Resplandy, Scripps
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302
Date: Friday, October 9, 2015, 11:15 a.m.
Synopsis:
The ocean's response to anthropogenic perturbations and its capacity to store heat and carbon are inextricably intertwined with its circulation. I will present how aircraft atmospheric biogeochemical observations can provide new constraints on ocean circulation, and particularly the meridional transport of heat and carbon, two key features of the climate system. I will discuss how shortcomings in simulating the transports of heat and carbon in current climate models bear on future climate projections.
