Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

Energetics and Scaling in a Moist Quasigeostrophic model of a Midlatitude Atmosphere

Speaker: Marguerite Brown, CAOS

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, October 29, 2021, 4 p.m.

Notes:

Moist processes have been shown to account for around half of the available energy in the atmosphere, but there has yet to be a clear consensus on how to think about their contribution to the energetics. In this talk, I will describe how we’ve been conceptualizing the inclusion of moisture in the energetic framework of the midlatitude atmosphere and explore some of the consequences of modifying the energetics on the scaling of the turbulent dynamics.
