Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

Features inferrence from surface vorticity, strain and divergence statistics and its applications

Speaker: Qiyu Xiao, CAOS

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, April 8, 2022, 4 p.m.

Notes:

I will present how criteria based on the surface vorticity, strain and divergence joint probability distribution functions help decompose the surface velocity field into distinguishable flow types, and approximately parses the flow by lateral scale. This is useful because flows are multi-scale and Lagrangian in nature. We can try to apply this method to analyze transportation and parse flow with only the surface data.
