Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

A modeling approach to near-surface Arctic dynamics

Speaker: Hassan Mason, CAOS

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, April 14, 2023, 4 p.m.

Synopsis:

The polar oceans are undergoing rapid transformation in our changing climate. Describing and documenting these regions is as important as ever. Considering the difficulties involved with both in situ and theoretical studies and the complex dynamics involved, modeling studies are an effective way to analyze the polar ocean basins. In this talk I will first describe some of the interesting dynamics exclusive to the polar regions. Furthermore, I will present an idealized modeling setup in MITgcm inspired by the large scale Arctic flow and discuss some intuition that these simulations can provide.
