Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

An inverse problem approach to gravity wave momentum parameterization

Speaker: Nolan Reilly

Synopsis:

The generation of gravity waves is difficult to directly observe in the wild or in simulations, so practical parameterizations of GW sources are not informed by data. I am attempting to use parameterizations of GW propagation to invert their propagation in high-res simulation data. Being able to obtain spectra of gravity waves from the momentum they deposit would allow training a new, better-constrained set of source parameterizations in the (near) future.
