Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

From O(10^3) to O(10^8) and beyond: The power of large scale-machine learning for emulating climate components

Speaker: Adam Subel

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, October 18, 2024, 4 p.m.

Synopsis:

In today’s talk I will first try to contextualize the existing space of emulators for the atmosphere and ocean, with a focus on motivating the role of large-scale machine learning in climate problems. This will include some high level comparisons between approaches and their successes and limitations. I will then talk a bit about the next steps I am taking with my work to help improve and better understand ocean emulators.
