Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

Two Models of the Ocean Gyre Mean State

Speaker: Hassan Mason

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, April 11, 2025, 4 p.m.

Synopsis:

The Beaufort Gyre is a basin scale ocean gyre that lies north of Canada in the Arctic Ocean. The Beaufort Gyre's mean state is largely set through a balance between surface stress driven Ekman transport and mesoscale eddies. I will discuss two models of the Beaufort Gyre: a high resolution channel model and an azimuthally averaged TEM construction. Both are designed to boost understanding of those physical processes that drive the gyre's mean state.
