Synopsis:
The Weak Temperature Gradient (WTG) Approximation is used to parameterize large-scale tropical dynamics in small-domain cloud-resolving simulations. In this talk, I will briefly talk about the different WTG schemes that are often used and compare them against each other. We will talk about why there are discrepancies between the results when different schemes are used. I will also show that the WTG has great potential in modelling tropical climate beyond the already established frameworks, including island dynamics and even convectively coupled waves.
