Atmosphere Ocean Science Friday Seminar

Gravity wave breaking: dynamic vs convective instability

Speaker: Oliver Bühler, Professor, Courant Institute

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1314

Date: Friday, October 19, 2018, 3:45 p.m.

Synopsis:

To lighten the mood in our Friday seminar, I will present my own first PhD student talk as given originally on April 22nd, 1993.
The topic was/is the breaking of internal gravity waves in the atmosphere, and whether Kelvin-Helmholtz instability or convective instability is more important in this process.  Trigger warning: this will include vintage transparencies and no movies.
