Two faculty positions available
The Center for Atmosphere Ocean Science (CAOS) announces the opening of two separate searches for open-rank tenure/tenure-track faculty appointments. One appointment is to be made entirely within the Courant Institute’s Department of Mathematics, the other is to be made jointly with the Center for Data Science (CDS). Each appointment is expected to begin in September 2025.
Appointment in CAOS: Ideal candidates for the appointment associated entirely with CAOS are outstanding scholars with proven expertise in the application of innovative computational, mathematical, and data-driven methods to fundamental research in all areas of the climate sciences, particularly Earth’s oceans and cryosphere.
The search will remain open until the position is filled, but those received by November 15, 2024, will receive full consideration. Applications should be submitted through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/157018. Please indicate `climate science’ as your area of interest in the application. Names of recommenders are requested; letters of recommendation will be sought only if needed. Questions should be directed to the chair of the search, Olivier Pauluis (op13@nyu.edu).
Joint appointment in CAOS and CDS: The aim of the joint appointment between CAOS and CDS is to expand the university’s expertise at the intersections of data science for climate physics and computational science with machine learning. The ideal candidate will be firmly engaged in both the fields of data science and climate physics. This search is part of a cluster hire in Predicting Climate Change and its Impacts: From the Global to Urban Scale that includes the departments of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Civil and Urban Engineering in the Tandon School of Engineering, and the Center for Data Science. More information about this cluster, and NYU's broader Faculty Cluster Hiring Initiative, can be found here.
The search will remain open until the position is filled, but those received by December 15, 2024, will receive full consideration. More details of the position, and an application submission link can be found at https://apply.interfolio.com/158015. Questions should be directed to the chair of the search, Ed Gerber (epg2@nyu.edu).
